Tech pursuing Florida graduate transfer

Georgia Tech is reportedly in the running for graduate transfer Eli Carter from Florida. Carter averaged 8.8 points per game while shooting 36.2 percent from the field last season for the Gators.

ESPN college basketball reporter Jeff Goodman wrote in a tweet Monday that Carter was considering Tech along with St. John’s, Clemson, North Carolina State, Seton Hall, Georgetown and Long Beach State. Carter is from Paterson, N.J. His destination will become his third school. Carter played two seasons at Rutgers and then was granted an NCAA waiver to play immediately after transferring to Florida. However, he took a medical redshirt after deciding to extend his rehabilitation on a broken fibula suffered during his sophomore season at Rutgers.

Carter made 30.5 of his 141 3-point tries, slightly better than the 26.7 that Tech shot last season but hardly efficient.

Tech has already received a commitment from one graduate transfer, former Virginia Tech guard Adam Smith. Coach Brian Gregory has another spot available as guard Chris Bolden, who was suspended for the final six games of the season for violating the school’s student-athlete conduct code, will not return for his senior season.

Tech also had another graduate transfer, Providence forward Tyler Harris, in for a visit in late April. Harris had yet to make a decision as of Tuesday.
