A sports blog about the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Tech has 75/1 odds to win CFP

Georgia Tech has been given 75 to 1 odds to win the College Football Playoff in January by the online sportsbook Bovada. There are 21 teams ahead of the Yellow Jackets, who are the only team given those particular odds, between Michigan, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M at 50/1 and a litany of teams (Arizona State, Florida, Nebraska, Texas and Virginia Tech among them) at 100/1.

What might be a more germane set of odds are those that Bovada gives for the ACC championship. Clemson is lowest at 2/1, followed by Florida State at 5/2 and then Tech at 5/1.

To me, it feels like both odds on Tech should be lower, though not drastically. But I'm probably thinking more of probability and not odds, which are different.

Who faces similar odds as the Jackets to hoist the national championship trophy in Glendale, Ariz., Jan. 11?

The New York Jets are 70/1 odds to win the Super Bowl.

Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans are 75/1 to go to the Super Bowl.

The Boston Celtics are 75/1 to win the NBA Finals.

Syracuse and Connecticut are 70/1 to win the NCAA basketball championship next April. (Georgia Tech is not on the board, which includes Northwestern – which has never made the NCAA tournament in school history, and Wake Forest at 1000/1.)

Carly Fiorina and Martin O’Malley are both 75/1 to win the 2016 presidential election.

As for Tech's ACC title odds, they're roughly similar to:

The San Antonio Spurs, who are 19/5 to win the NBA Finals (behind Cleveland at 5/2).

The Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks to win the Super Bowl, at 11/2 (they're co-favorites).

Kansas City to win the World Series (4/1 - also favorites).

Georgia to win the SEC (11/2 - third lowest odds).

Joe Biden or Bernie O'Malley to win the Democratic nomination for president (4/1, behind Hilary Clinton and Joe Biden).
