Tech defense with 'some new stuff' for Clemson

Georgia Tech’s defense has something new in store for Clemson Saturday. So says defensive tackle Adam Gotsis.

“Today was a real good day,” Gotsis said after Tuesday’s practice. “We put in some new stuff, just making sure we’re doing the right assignments, everyone knows their jobs. That’s the biggest thing, knowing what you’ve got to do.”

In recent weeks, defensive coordinator Ted Roof and his staff have introduced a variety of tweaks. Against Virginia, for instance, Tech used a three-man defensive front on passing downs and moved Patrick Gamble from backup tackle to starting defensive end. Against N.C. State, backup defensive backs such as Step Durham saw more playing time. The frequency of blitzes has also increased.

“We’re just going off the film from last week and the past couple weeks,” Gotsis said, “just some new stuff that hopefully picks some of the gaps that we’ve had in our defense at the moment or things like that, and some of the weak points. Just some new stuff to help fix that. See how it goes.”
