Son of former Tech star in LLWS

Georgia Tech fans seeking a rooting interest in the Little League World Series that began Wednesday night in Williamsport, Penn., can back the team from South Nashville, Tenn.

The team’s starting shortstop is Drew Byers, the son of former Tech first baseman Scott Byers, who was a starter on the Yellow Jackets’ first College World Series team.

Coincidentally, calling the games for ESPN will be Nomar Garciaparra, a star of the 1994 team and teammate of the elder Byers.

South Nashville plays its first game Friday at 3 p.m. against the Mid-Atlantic champion. The game will be carried on ESPN.

Also of note: Tech signee Blake Jackson played for the 2009 Warner Robins team that also played in the Little League World Series.
