Shaquille Mason lining up pre-draft visits

In the run-up to the NFL draft, the interest in former Georgia Tech guard Shaquille Mason is strong.

Several teams have invited Mason to their headquarters for interviews with coaches and executives and also to take physicals. Ryan Rubin, Mason’s Atlanta-based agent, said the number of teams is in the “high single digits.”

“He’s going to be very busy these next two weeks,” Rubin said.

The website NFL Draft Scout projects Mason as a fifth-rounder and the No. 6 center prospect. Tony Pauline of pegged him as a seventh-round pick. Mason undoubtedly helped himself at the Tech pro day, running the 40-yard dash in 4.98 seconds, reaching 32 inches in the vertical jump and finishing the 3-cone drill in 7.53 seconds, all scores that would have been in the top five among offensive linemen at the combine.

“He’s gotten good feedback, of course,” Rubin said. “Everything after his pro was positive and check pluses sort of stuff.”

Rubin said he was not at liberty to disclose the teams he will be visiting. But the visits are noteworthy because teams are permitted to bring only 30 prospects to their headquarters. Some, Rubin said, have shown interest in Mason since the end of the college season.

The NFL draft is April 30-May 2.
