'Ramblin' Wreck'' named top college fight song

By the inscrutable authority that is an online voting poll, "I'm a Ramblin' Wreck (from Georgia Tech)" has been named the best college fight song, beating out better-known classics like Notre Dame's "Victory March" and Michigan's "The Victors." Voting was conducted by the College Football Fan Index on the USA Today website.

“Ramblin’ Wreck” received 13 percent of the vote, barely edging out Tennessee’s “Rocky Top” with 11 percent, “The Victors” with 11 percent and “Victory March” and Oklahoma’s “Boomer Sooner” with 8 percent each.

As noteworthy as the results of an online poll can be, it is worth noting that Tech’s fan base is smaller than the four schools whose fight songs followed “Ramblin’ Wreck.” It won with 622 votes out of 4,812 cast. (It would seem that a small but concerted effort from fans of any school could sway the vote without much problem.) (Not to give anyone any ideas.)

The Fan Index poll is conducting weekly polls throughout the season to determine the best tailgates, stadiums, mascots, fields, bands, stadiums, etc.
