Marcus Georges-Hunt's heartfelt praise for Brian Gregory

Marcus Georges-Hunt was part of former Georgia Tech coach Brian Gregory’s class and developed into his star pupil. He became an All-ACC guard, set the school record for career starts and demonstrated leadership and perseverance throughout his four years at Tech. The appreciation that he and Gregory had for each other was obvious, and was revealed once again this weekend in a Facebook post from Georges-Hunt’s account in the wake of Gregory’s dismissal after five seasons.

Georges-Hunt’s comments underscore the bond that Gregory forged with his players and the culture that he established within the team. Athletic director Mike Bobinski recognized it in comments made Friday at a news conference in responding to a question about what he was looking for in a candidate.

“From sort of the personal characteristic side, if I could have all of what Brian brought, I’d take all of that again,” he said. “There’s very little, if anything there that I would do differently. He was as standup a guy and as first class and high integrity an individual as you could ever hope for – represented himself, our program, Georgia Tech, the Georgia Tech community in an absolutely first-class way. I don’t want to give up any of that.”
