Georgia Tech right fielder Kel Johnson will be out indefinitely with a sprained ankle suffered in the Yellow Jackets’ game against North Carolina.

Johnson, a freshman, had started all 23 games to that point with a .379 batting average (fourth in the ACC). Entering Tuesday’s games, he was also tied for fourth in home runs (seven) and RBI (25) and third in slugging percentage (.705). Johnson injured himself in a collision at first base as he ran out an infield single.

Tech plays Auburn at Russ Chandler Stadium Tuesday at 6 p.m. and will be at Louisville for a three-game series this weekend.
