Through three weeks of camp, Georgia Tech kicker Harrison Butker got a passing grade from coach Paul Johnson.

“He’s been fairly consistent,” Johnson said Wednesday. “We’ll have a big kicking scrimmage Saturday. He’ll get a lot of work there.”

Johnson gave him a head start Thursday. He put some pressure on the junior by giving him the chance to end practice about an hour early if he could make four field goals in a row. He hit from 32, then 37 and then 42 yards. All that remained was a 47-yarder.

The liberation field goals were reminiscent of a similar feat on the first day of practice in 2014, when he made five in a row, with the longest from beyond 50 yards.

Butker made another kick of note from nearly the same distance a few months later.

Butker was 11-for-18 on field goal tries last season. He was 14th in the country in kickoff distance - 63.3 yards, or just inside the 2-yard line. He was 12th in the country in touchback percentage at 59.8 percent.
