Here's a new weekly feature in which I'll try to recap what happened at Georgia Tech last week, and look ahead to what's happening this week:

Looking ahead to Tech vs. Miami

The game will kick off at noon. Georgia Tech was smoked by Clemson 26-7 last Thursday while Miami was off. The Hurricanes are 3-0 with wins against Florida A&M, Florida Atlantic and Appalachian State, not exactly a Murderer’s Row of opponents. But the Hurricanes likely don’t need a confidence boost before playing the Yellow Jackets because they have two things going for them: even when they haven’t been great they’ve been great against Tech, winning six of the past seven, and Mark Richt has also won six of his past seven against Paul Johnson.

Before we get into the rest of what's coming, please take a minute to read this excellent story by colleague Steve Hummer on Homer Rice.

Believe it or not, he started writing this even before the news about Todd Stansbury becoming the new A.D. broke last week.

Video highlights of Miami football

If you want a quick primer on how the Hurricanes are doing, here are a few videos from the ACC website. Here's your cheat sheet: Brad Kaaya is playing well with almost 700 yards passing on a 66-percent completion clip.

ANNOUNCER VOICE: "That kid is going to be playing on Sundays in the National Football League because he is making National Football League-type throws, which is a good indication of his ability to play in the National Football League." (yes, the repeated use of National Football League by analysts drives me up a wall.)

Wrapping up Tech vs. Clemson

If you want to read more about Georgia Tech vs. Clemson, here are a few links. If you don't, I completely understand. It was a very odd game for a lot of reasons. I won't bludgeon you with everything that we wrote after the game (which was actually fewer stories than usual because there weren't many angles), but here are two summaries:

Three takeaways from the game.

From the other side

Here’s what some of the writers who cover Clemson had to say. There aren't a whole lot of surprises:

Tigernet.com offered this takeaway: the Tigers’ defensive line stuffed Tech’s offensive line all night.

Clemson’s Ben Boulware told The State: “The first series where I saw where Christian made the first two plays and Carlos I was like, ‘If they can’t even get past our d-line it’s going to be a pretty easy night.”

Augusta Chronicle's Scott Michaux wrote: It could have – perhaps should have – been much worse.

Tech recruiting roundup

Colleague JuliaKate Culpepper is handling recruiting for us and she penned these items last week about those players that could become future Yellow Jackets. One more poll, though:

Tech offers Fitzgerald QB James Graham. He is a three-star prospect.

Tech offers point guard Kyle Studivant. He plays at Norcross and also has offers from Auburn and Xavier.

Wendell Carter Jr. has Tech in his final four, but his dad, Wendell Sr., told colleague Ken Sugiura that his son doing so may have been more a courtesy. "I would say right now it's Georgia, Georgia Tech and the top two would be Duke and Harvard. That would be the frontrunners. We're going to throw Georgia and Georgia Tech in just because it's the hometown and we'll take a look at it. You never know."

Tech offers Babatunde Akingbloa, a forward from McEachern who also has an offer from Rutgers.

What’s being written about Miami?

Speaking of recruiting, the Hurricanes aren't the prospect paradise they once were. Well, Miami has taken a step to produce one of those shiny baubles that turn the heads of some of the three- and four-star prospects.

The Hurricanes are building an indoor practice facility with an estimated cost of $34 million. Billionaire Jeffrey Soffer is donating a portion of the money and has asked that the building's name honor his mother, Carol.
