As Georgia Tech men's basketball coach Josh Pastner rolls through scouting reports on each scholarship player on this team, one thing continues to pop up: points.

The team has to be smart in its shot selection because there isn't a go-to scorer.

The second thing is the players need to give total effort in everything from rebounding, to avoiding turnovers, to taking good shots.

The margin of error for earning wins will be very small.

Over the next few days, I’ll post player-by-player scouting reports on the team as it prepares for its exhibition opener against Shorter on Nov. 5 at McCamish Pavilion.

The Yellow Jackets went 21-15 overall, 8-10 in the ACC under previous coach Brian Gregory.

Sylvester Ogbonda

Class: Redshirt freshman.

Position: Forward.

Height: 6-10.

High school: National Christian Academy (Fort Washington, Md.)

Career averages

Points: 6.0

Shooting percentage: 75 on 8-of-12 shots.

3-point percentage: N/A.

Rebounds: 5.3

Miscellaneous: Played in three games in the team's trip to the Bahamas before being redshirted. … Averaged 13 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks as a senior in high school. … Class valedictorian.

Coach Josh Pastner's take: He plays hard, does his job. He's got to improve his leg strength in terms of playing above the rim and scoring around the basket. He's an enforcer down there. He plays hard. He'll come up with 50/50 balls.
