Georgia Tech scouting reports: Corey Heyward

As Georgia Tech men's basketball coach Josh Pastner rolls through scouting reports on each scholarship player on this team, one thing continues to pop up: points.

The team has to be smart in its shot selection because there isn't a go-to scorer.

The second thing is effort in everything from rebounding, to avoiding turnovers, to taking good shots.

The margin of error for earning wins will be very small.

Over the next few days, I’ll post player-by-player scouting reports on the team as it prepares for its exhibition opener against Shorter on Nov. 5 at McCamish Pavilion.

The Yellow Jackets went 21-15 overall, 8-10 in the ACC under previous coach Brian Gregory.

Corey Heyward

Class: Redshirt senior.

Position: Guard.

Height: 6-1.

High school: Peachtree Ridge/Hargrave Military Academy.

Coach Josh Pastner's take: Tough, hard-nosed. Got to continue to improve his shooting. He's got to have a high assist to low turnover ratio. Simple, sound and solid in executing what needs to be executed. Be a great defender. He's gotten better with his conditioning for us too. Understanding about driving angles and clipping the hip on all of our drives.
