As Georgia Tech men's basketball coach Josh Pastner rolls through scouting reports on each scholarship player on this team, one thing continues to pop up: points.

The team has to be smart in its shot selection because there isn't a go-to scorer.

The second thing is the players need to give total effort in everything from rebounding, to avoiding turnovers, to taking good shots.

The margin of error for earning wins will be very small.

Over the next few days, I’ll post player-by-player scouting reports on the team as it prepares for its exhibition opener against Shorter on Nov. 5 at McCamish Pavilion.

The Yellow Jackets went 21-15 overall, 8-10 in the ACC under previous coach Brian Gregory.

Abdoulaye Gueye

Class: Redshirt sophomore.

Position: Forward.

Height: 6-9.

High school: Central Park Christian (Birmingham).

Career averages

Points: 0.5 as a freshman. He sat out last season.

Shooting percentage: 40-percent shooter.

3-point percentage: 0-for-1.

Rebounds: 0.8

Miscellaneous: Averaged 14 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks as a senior in high school…Rated a three-star power forward in high school…Career high eight minutes against North Carolina as a college freshman in 2014-15.

Coach Josh Pastner's take: Understanding our plays, having carrover in that he can be an all-acc type defender. He's long. He's got to be an every offensive rebounder. He's got to work on his shooting and his ball skills. All that's important for him.
