Fulcher named to Georgia sports hall

Former Georgia Tech football coach and lineman Bill Fulcher has been named to the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame’s class of 2015.

Fulcher lettered for the Yellow Jackets 1953-54-55, when Tech compiled a 26-6-2 record with three bowl wins and three top-15 rankings at season's end. He was part of the 1955 defense that shut out four opponents and averaged 4.6 points per game. He played three seasons in the NFL with Washington.

Fulcher later served as an assistant coach to Bobby Dodd and Bud Carson and then became Tech’s head coach for the 1972-73 seasons.

Fulcher will be inducted in February at the Macon City Auditorium.

Other inductees are former major league baseball pitcher and high-school coach Bobby Hendley, former Georgia basketball player Alex Kessler, former Georgia running back Willie McClendon, former USGA president (and Atlanta Constitution editor) Reg Murphy, Braves president and former general manager John Schuerholz, former Olympic and Georgia gymnast Hope Spivey and Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward.
