The auction for what is believed to be the game ball from Georgia Tech’s 222-0 win over Cumblerland in 1916 is over. The ball ultimately went for $40,388, eight times the original bidding price.

The bidding took off in the final hours, ascending from $15,700 Friday morning to $18,997 Friday night, $27,815 Saturday at 6 p.m. and the final price, two bids later, at $40,388. The auction closed to all bidders at 10 p.m. and then continued into the night for those who had already bid. It ended when no bid was made on any item in the entire auction for 15 minutes.

I am hoping to have more information on the winning bidder later on today. Check back this afternoon.
