Johns Creek drivers may see some traffic delays tonight as construction workers ready to begin work on the southern portion of an ongoing project to widen Old Alabama Road.

If weather permits, traffic will be shifted onto the newly constructed northern half of Old Alabama Road between State Route 141/Medlock Bridge Road and Buice Road, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Preparation for the shift will start at 7 p.m. with the actual shift taking place around 10 p.m. The change in traffic flow will allow construction to begin on the southern portion of the project.

Workers are widening Old Alabama Road from three to four lanes separated by a 20-foot wide median. The project also calls for a stretch of new sidewalk next to the eastbound lanes and a 10-foot multi-use trail next to the westbound lanes. A left turn lane will also be added on SR 141/Medlock Bridge Road to Old Alabama Road.
