Uber has joined the scrum of companies fighting for a share of Atlanta’s burgeoning market for electric scooters.

The company announced this morning that its “JUMP by Uber” scooters will launch in Atlanta today. The Uber app allows customers to use and reserve a scooter. The cost is $1 to unlock a scooter and 10 cents per minute after that.

Uber joins Bird and Lime, which launched scooters in Atlanta earlier this year.

Hundreds of scooters have popped up around Atlanta in recent months. The companies bill them as an easy solution for short trips. But they've also drawn critics, who say they're a safety hazard for users and for those around them.

The Atlanta City Council is expected to consider parking, speed limit and safety guidelines for scooters early next year. Decatur is also cracking down on scooters.
