Resurfacing of I-20 to cause lane closures, delays

I-20 is about to get the upgrades it has so desperately needed, but it's going to come at the cost of lane closures and delays for commuters.

Starting on Friday, weather permitting, the Georgia Department of Transportation will begin resurfacing east and westbound lanes along 15 miles of the interstate between Sweetwater Creek, just after Thornton Road, and Hill Street (between exits 44 and 56B).

Pavement restriping and sign upgrades will also be added improve safety and traffic flow at the I-20 East/ I-285 interchange.

The work will require lane closures on weeknights and weekends. There will also be some daytime closures of the shoulder. On weekends, motorists should expect multiple lane closures, according to GDOT.

The project is expected to be complete by December.

C.W. Matthews Contracting Company and E.R. Snell Contractor will complete the work for $39.9 million.
