MARTA faregates are malfunctioning today, which means passengers can get a free train ride until the problem is fixed (no word yet on when that'll be).

MARTA sent a statement out shortly after 7 a.m. Monday notifying media that "due to a technical malfunction, the Breeze faregates at MARTA rail stations are not working properly." Buses do not appear to be affected.

Rail customers can access the system for free until the issue is corrected.

Cubic, the third-party vendor responsible for maintaining the Breeze system, is working to return affected faregates to normal operation.

"We regret any inconvenience to our customers as we work to resolve this issue as quickly as possible," said Alisa T. Jackson, communications manager for MARTA.
