Want to weigh in on metro Atlanta’s plans for fighting traffic congestion? You’ll have a chance at two public meetings Thursday.
The region’s long-term transportation plan includes scores of projects designed to alleviate traffic congestion. The update includes the acceleration of nine interstate highway projects. It also includes three interchange projects, four express lanes projects, three interstate widening projects and one commercial vehicle lanes project. Among the projects:
*Reconstructed interchanges at I-285 and I-20 west and I-20 east.
*New express lanes on I-285 across the top end from I-20 east to I-20 west.
*Widening I-85 north from Hamilton Mill Road to U.S. 129.
*Commercial vehicle (truck) lanes on I-75 South from Ga. 155 to I-475.
All are scheduled to be complete or under construction by 2025. You can learn more about these and other projects here.
GDOT and the Atlanta Regional Commission have scheduled open houses to show off the plan at two locations Thursday:
*11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Peachtree Center Food Court Plaza, 231 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta.
* 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Georgia Department of Transportation headquarters, 600 West Peachtree St NW, Atlanta.
