Grant allows MARTA to expand fresh food markets

A federal grant will allow MARTA to expand its fresh produce kiosks at transit stations beginning next year.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture awarded the Atlanta transit agency $500,000 to expand its Fresh MARTA Markets. The program debuted in 2015 and allows passengers to by fresh produce weekly at the West End, College Park, H.E. Holmes and Five Points stations.

Though details have not been determined, the grant could allow MARTA to increase the frequency of the markets, expand them to other stations or both.

The markets are open from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the following dates:

*West End: Every Tuesday until Nov. 28.

*H.E. Holmes: Every Wednesday until Nov. 29.

*College Park: Every Thursday until Nov. 30.

*Five Points: Every Friday until Dec. 1.
