The Georgia Department of Transportation is seeking input from Cobb and Douglas County residents and commuters  about a proposed detour for an upcoming bridge rehabilitation project on Veterans Memorial Highway.

The agency will host an informal open house today from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Georgia DOT Training Center at 3993 Aviation Circle in Atlanta.

“The suggested detour will reroute traffic that travels on Veterans Memorial Highway,” said Andy Doyle, state bridge maintenance engineer. “The detour will also impact local traffic, therefore, we encourage residents to attend the open house to view the detour, leave comments, and ask questions.”

The rehab project involves a Veterans Memorial Highway bridge over the Chattahoochee River in Cobb County. It will include improving the bridge deck, painting the steel superstructure and replacing bridge joints, according to GDOT.

GDOT staff and engineers will be on hand at the open house to answer questions about the project and proposed detour. Residents can also submit a statement by June 1 to the following:

Mr. Eric Duff, State Environmental Administrator, Georgia Department of Transportation, 600 West Peachtree Street, NW – 16th Floor, Atlanta, GA 30308
