Express lanes, resurfacing projects to delay traffic

Coming back into town from the Democratic National Convention?

You may want to fly instead.

Delays on I-20 and the work on the express lanes may make you wish you were a part of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport's 101 million (and growing) fliers.

There are a few bright spots. There should be no traffic delays along Ga. 400.

The Downtown Connector resurfacing project will also take a small break this weekend, but here are other trouble spots:

Northwest Corridor Express Lanes

I-75

One southbound lane will close between South Marietta Parkway and Delk Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday.

Drivers along North Marietta Parkway and the I-575 interchange will have to slow speeds between 5 mph and 10 mph. The traffic pace will take place on the northbound lanes from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday and will allow contractors to work across the interstate lanes.

Two northbound lanes will close between the Canton Road Connector and the I-575 interchange from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday.

One northbound lane will close between Chastain Road and Alabama Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday.

One southbound lane will close between Windy Hill Road and Cumberland Boulevard from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday.

Three lanes will close on the I-75 southbound ramp to I-285 from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday.

Drivers on the I-75 southbound ramp to I-285 westbound will have to slow their speeds between 5 mph and 10 mph. The traffic pace will take place from 11 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday and will allow contractors to work across the interstate lanes.

 I-575

One southbound lane will close between Towne Lake Parkway and Ridgewalk Parkway from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday.

South Metro Express Lanes   

I-75

One southbound lane will close a mile before Hudson Bridge Road and Jonesboro Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday. Drivers will slow speeds between 5 mph and 10 mph to allow contractors to work across interstate lanes.

One southbound lane will close between Jonesboro Road and Hampton Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday. Drivers will slow speeds between 5 mph and 10 mph to allow contractors to work across interstate lanes.

One northbound lane will close between Jonesboro Road and Hudson Bridge Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday.

One southbound lane will close a mile before and at Hudson Bridge Road from 9 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday.

One westbound lane will close at Willow Lane along Hampton Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday.

One lane will close at Industrial Boulevard along North McDonough Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday.

I-285

The northbound and southbound on-ramps will close at the Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway exit nonstop from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.

I-20

Two westbound lanes will close between the Downtown Connector interchange and Hamilton E. Holmes Drive nonstop from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Three westbound lanes will close between McDaniel Street and Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard nonstop from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Two eastbound lanes will close between Fulton Industrial Boulevard and the I-285 interchange from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Saturday. The closure will allow crews to restripe the roadway.

One eastbound lane and shoulder will close between Hamilton E. Holmes Drive and Langhorn Street from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday.

Two eastbound lanes and shoulder will close between Langhorn Street and the Downtown Connector interchange from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

The following ramps will close for up to three hours between 9 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday for resurfacing:

  • I-20 on-ramp from Lee Street
  • I-20 on-ramp from Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard
  • I-20 off-ramp to Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard
  • I-20 on-ramp from Sells Avenue

The following ramps will close for up to three hours from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday for resurfacing:

  • I-20 on-ramp from Martin Luther King Jr. Drive
  • I-20 off-ramp to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive
  • I-20 on-ramp from Hamilton E. Holmes Drive

Downtown Connector

One lane will close on the I-75/I-85 northbound exit ramp to Fulton Street and Central Avenue near Georgia State University from 9 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday for resurfacing.

I-75

One southbound lane and shoulder will close between Forest Parkway and Tara Boulevard from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for resurfacing.

One lane will close on the I-75 northbound entrance ramp from Forest Parkway nightly from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday and from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday for resurfacing.

I-85

Two northbound lanes will close between Riverdale Road and Virginia Avenue from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday. The lanes will close again from 9 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday. The lanes will close a final time from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Other State Routes

On Lavista Road, one southbound lane will close between I-285 and Briarcliff Road from 8 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.

On Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, one northbound and one southbound lane will close between North Shallowford Road and Club Drive from 8 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday and from 8 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday.
