Express-lanes project to create the bulk of weekend traffic

Thinking of heading to the SEC Championship game this weekend? Leave early if you're in Cobb County.

Drivers can expect heavy delays near Windy Hill, Akers Mill and Delk roads as work on the Northwest express lanes continue.

The bulk of road work will occur overnight, but that could change due to weather, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Here are your trouble spots:

Northwest Corridor Express Lanes

A traffic shift will take place along Terrell Mill Road between Water Place and Woodchase Lane from 7 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday and from 7 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.

I-575

One northbound lane will close between Ridgewalk Parkway and Sixes Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday and from 9 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday.

One southbound lane will close between Towne Lake Parkway and Shallowford Road from 8 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday.

A traffic pacing will take place between Towne Lake Parkway and Shallowford Road from 10 p.m. Sunday to 3 a.m. Monday.

A right shoulder will close between Bells Ferry and Shallowford roads from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

I-75

One northbound lane will close between Wade Green and Woodstock roads from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday.

One northbound lane will close between Hickory Grove and Woodstock roads from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday.

A traffic pacing will take place between North Marietta Parkway and Delk Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday and from 9 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday.

Alternating lane closures will take place between Barrett Parkway and the I-75/I-575 interchange from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday and from 8 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday.

Two southbound lanes will close between South Marietta Parkway and Delk Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday and from 9 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday.

A traffic pacing will take place between Wade Green Road and the I-75/I-575 interchange from 10 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday and from 10 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday.

Two northbound lanes will close between Bells Ferry Road and Barrett Parkway from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday.

The northbound exit ramp to Windy Hill Road will close from 9 p.m. Saturday to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Two northbound lanes will close between Akers Mill and Delk roads from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Saturday.

I-285

One westbound lane will close between the I-75/I-575 interchange and Cumberland Boulevard from 9 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday.

South Metro Express Lanes

One northbound lane will close between Jonesboro and Jodeco roads from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday and from 9 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday.

North Extension Project

One northbound lane will close along I-85 between Gravel Springs and Hamilton Mill roads from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday, from 9 p.m. Saturday and to 5 a.m. Sunday and from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.

One lane will close along Buford Drive leading to the I-85 interchange from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday, from 9 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday and from 9 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday.

I-85

Two southbound lanes will close at Virginia Avenue from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday, from 9 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday and from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.

I-75

Two lanes will close near Holiday Drive from 9 p.m. Friday to 2 p.m. Saturday.

A northbound ramp to Tara Boulevard will close from 9 p.m. Friday to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Two northbound lanes will close between Jonesboro Road and Ga. 3 from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday, from 9 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday and from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.

One southbound lane will close between Tara Boulevard and Ga. 54 from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday, from 9 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday and from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.

I-20

One westbound lane between Ashby and McDaniel streets will close from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday, from 9 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday and from 9 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday. A right lane will close to I-285 northbound at this time.

Rolling lane closures will take place between Hill Street and Sweetwater Circle heading westbound from midnight Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday and heading eastbound from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday.

I-285

A southbound ramp leading to Bolton Road will close for bridge rehabilitation from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday, from 9 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday and from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.
