A heads up to those attending the first two Atlanta Braves games at SunTrust Park Friday and Saturday: The team’s parking lots will not accept credit or debit cards on those days.

For weeks the team has been stressing for weeks that fans should buy tickets and parking in advance. Vice President Mike Plant underscored that message again at a press conference Wednesday.

But while the team has previously said its parking lots will not accept cash, on Wednesday Plant announced they won’t take plastic, either, for those first two games. The reason? The team really, really wants fans to get in the habit of paying for parking in advance.

Fans can purchase parking permits at the team’s web site. After Saturday, team lots will take credit and debit cards again. But the team says those who don’t reserve parking in advance could be out of luck – or at least spend a lot of time driving around in search of a place to park.

There are also about 2,000 parking spaces at private lots near the stadium that may take cash. But at the press conference County Commissioner Bob Ott discouraged people from counting on getting one.

Pre-paid parking permits are one way the Braves and Cobb County are trying to address traffic congestion around the new stadium. You can read more about those efforts here.
