Nicolas Cage will be in Atlanta this spring directing "Vengeance: A Love Story," based on a book with a similar title by Joyce Carol Oates. "I'm excited to bring Joyce Carol Oates' bittersweet novel to the screen," he said in a statement emailed to the AJC by Jazo PR."Storytelling has always been my passion and I'm honored to work with this talented team to tell a tale of the suffering too many women have endured."

Based on Oates’ work “Rape: A Love Story,” the film is set to start production on April 4.

The plot, per the Jazo release: "On the 4th of July, 12-year-old Bethie Maguire flags down Niagara Falls Police Detective John Dromoor (played by Cage). Bethie's mother has been brutally raped and left for dead. While testimony and evidence pins the crime on four suspects, a renowned criminal defense attorney focuses on the victim's credibility, calling into question her sobriety, shoddy parenting and promiscuity."
