We are totally copying you, Snow Mountain.

Stone Mountain Park creates  a winter wonderland full of fake white stuff each year, but had to close the attraction today and yesterday due to snow.

Similarly, the Marietta Square ice skating rink also had to close temporarily - due to ice.

The rink has proved so popular that it'll be up a little longer than in past years. (The video above is from a past year, when the schedule ended in early January). But not today.

We were in Montreal for Christmas. When it snows in Canada people go ice skating. When it snows (or threatens to) in metro Atlanta .. not so much. Photo: Charles Gay V

AJC Cobb County reporter Ben Brasch intrepidly set out for the Square early this morning, met some folks out for a sally  and took the saddest snow-day photo ever . The ice skating rink, set up in Glover Park in the center of the Square, was closed then, but the roads were still pretty icy.

I ran up there just now to check things out and found ice, but no ice skating. Unless you count the folks sort of slip-sliding their way down the still-frozen sidewalks.

A good move to shutter the operation today, I'd say. While most of the streets around the Square were quickly thawing and drying, there were plenty of slick icy spots, particularly in shady areas.

Snow Mountain is reopening Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., boasting that they'll have the only snow in metro Atlanta.

"Oh how the tables have turned," Snow Mountain bragged on Facebook after AJC Gwinnett County reporter Tyler Estep's story of its closing tore through social media Friday night.

To recap: Snow Mountain closes .. due to snow

AJC DeKalb reporter Joshua Sharpe has details here on Snow Mountain's snowy return .

In Marietta, the ice rink is back in business on Sunday, and will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Marietta Square folks also have been doing a great job promoting the businesses and restaurants that are open despite the weather. Check here for details and updates.

Until next time!
