In a news article heralding former President George H.W. Bush as the oldest former president, Fox News incorrectly reported the passing of former President Jimmy Carter. The error appeared on Fox News Insider, the official blog of Fox News. The network's official Twitter account links to the item.

Below right is a screen-shot of the article, which someone presumably will correct.

(Update: the article has now been updated, with the erroneous mention of Carter's passing removed).

The two ex-presidents are close in age, both having been born in 1924. Bush was born in June of that year and Carter in October. So Bush is indeed older.

But to be clear: both are still with us. As the AJC's resident Jimmy Carter expert Jill Vejnoska reported shortly before his 93rd birthday , "the peanut farmer who became president will mark it in his preferred fashion: By attending a piano concert in his honor at an Americus church on Saturday night, then  teaching Sunday School at his own church here  the following morning."

Furthermore, Carter has a book signing event coming up.
