Is it sacrilegious to recommend a nonbeef burger on this holiest of hashtag food holidays, #NationalCheeseburgerDay? If it is, cast me out of burger church, because there's a fabulous alternative patty being served in a delightful family establishment in southwest Atlanta.

Recently opened in an unassuming strip mall on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Terri’s Cafe serves a cheesy turkey burger that literally is stuffed with flavor. The Kitchen Sink Burger adds a smorgasbord of toppings to the questionably named, but unquestionably delicious, Crack Burger. Given its politically incorrect moniker by friends and family because of its addictive qualities, the burger is made with an impressively juicy turkey patty stuffed with spinach and feta cheese. Sheteria Laye-Webb, the cafe’s owner, developed the recipe years ago and opened the restaurant at the urging of friends and family who constantly were asking her to make it.

On the Kitchen Sink Burger, the cheese-infused patty is loaded with a laundry list of classic toppings: American and provolone cheese, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, a fried egg and shockingly crispy turkey bacon.

Sharva Laye, Sheteria’s sister, who often can be found at the grill, explained that “there’s no pork or beef at all in the restaurant.” You won’t miss it when Laye can turn out turkey bacon with such excellent texture.

At $10.99, the Kitchen Sink Burger is a relative bargain in the “mine’s bigger” world of fancy Atlanta burgers, but that’s not the only reason to seek out this hidden gem. The sisters will customize any dish for their diners with a smile, and they’ll chat with you while they cook. Terri’s Cafe, with the delightful sisters at the helm, and one of Atlanta’s best burgers, just might start a new burger religion.
