A mother and daughter behind two popular Atlanta Thai restaurant have collaborated on the menu for a new Buckhead spot.
DeeDee Niyomkul, who owns Tuk Tuk Thai Food Loft in south Buckhead, is about to open Chai Yo at 3050 Peachtree Road NW, next to cocktail lounge Himitsu in the Two Buckhead Plaza complex. The restaurant, currently in soft opening phase, is accepting limited reservations for dinner Monday-Saturday.
The menu for Chai Yo was developed by Niyomkul and her mother, Nan Niyomkul, who owns Nan Thai Fine Dining in Midtown and the temporarily-shuttered Tamarind Seed. Featured menu items include khao soi lobster -- a fried lobster tail wrapped with egg noodles, shallots, pickled mustard greens, green beans, yellow thai curry and red cabbage and sakoo sai gai -- a tapioca dumpling with pickled turnip, peanuts, ground chicken, and palm sugar filling topped with cilantro and fried garlic -- as well as other starters and entrees such as duck leg stew and Thai-style lamb chops.

The bar program -- helmed by Timothy Faulkner, who previously worked at Restaurant Eugene, Umi, Lusca, 8Arm and Octopus Bar -- will feature specialty cocktails using Thai-influenced ingredients including butterfly pea flower, lychee, lemongrass and kaffir lime. Beer, wine, cider and sake are also on the drink list.
The 90-seat restaurant also features a 10-seat Chef's Table.
The restaurant's grand opening is scheduled for Feb. 1, and lunch will start being served Monday-Friday the last week of January.
