It'll be a family culinary affair this year in Poncey-Highland.

Chef Ron Hsu is set to open eatery Lazy Betty at 652 North Highland Ave. late this year with his siblings Howard and Anita, who operate Sweet Auburn BBQ next door. The space is currently home to Soul Vegetarian No. 2, which has plans to relocate.

Hsu, an Atlanta native has worked for years at acclaimed New York City restaurants including Le Colonial and Le Bernardin. Chef de Cuisine and partner Aaron Phillips most recently served as line cook at Atlas Restaurant in the St. Regis Buckhead and has also worked at New York eateries including The Mark Restaurant, Bouley and Le Bernardin, where he met Hsu.

Lazy Betty’s menu will "feature seasonal fare using modern culinary techniques," according to a press release, with influences from Hsu's travels and Malaysian-Chinese roots.

Hsu will host a twice-monthly preview pop-up at The Poncey Highland, a cafe down the street from the future home of Lazy Betty, featuring a changing menu of dishes such as Charred Spanish Octopus, Pear and Soy Bean Mousse with Arugula Blossoms; Roasted Duck Magret, Turnip Cakes & Five-Spiced Natural Jus; and Fairytale Eggplant, Shiso Blooms and Stracciatella.

The May pop-ups are sold out; reservations for future pop-ups are available through Lazy Betty's Eventbrite page.

When it opens, Lazy Betty's 37-seat dining room will feature live wood-edge tables, banquette seating and a five-seat chef’s counter with a view into the kitchen.
