Take a look at the menu for Bar Mercado, opening this week at Krog Street Market

The long-awaited tapas concept from the team behind several popular Atlanta restaurants including Cooks & Soldiers is set to open at Krog Street Market this week.

Bar Mercado will open its doors for dinner in the former Cockentrice space this Thursday, Sept. 14. Lunch will start being served on Saturday, Sept. 30, with brunch service starting on Oct. 1.

Inspired by the Market of San Miguel, a covered market in Madrid, the restaurant will serve multi-regional tapas including pulpo a la gallega featuring braised octopus, potato, pimento and tomato; coca, or flatbread, topped with chickpea-hearts of palm puree and caña de cabra; empanadas stuffed with pork cheek and golden raisin; and squid served with esplette, gremolata and shellfish stock.

A separate bar snack menu will also be available featuring meats, cheeses, boquerones, almonds, olives and more. Dessert offerings include crème Catalan with cinnamon, bay and lemon zest and tarta de Santiago, an almond sponge cake with espresso anglaise and membrillo.

The bar program will feature a Spanish-focused wine list with 60 label and cocktail and beer lists with a Spanish influence including a selection of gin and tonics, sangria, kalimotxo, Estrella Damm and cider.

The kitchen will be helmed by chef John Castellucci and sous chefs Jessica Dinwiddie and Raul Dominguez. Colton Wright will serve as the bar manager and sommelier.

Designed by Atlanta-based Square Feet Studio, an award-winning architecture, the space will seat up to 100 guests and will feature design elements including large capiz shell globe pendants and drapery walls, and a barrel-vaulted canopy covers the patio dining area, which will seat 40 guests.

Bar Mercado is the latest venture from the Castellucci Hospitality Group, which also owns and operates Cooks & Soldiers in West Midtown, Double Zero in Emory Village, The Iberian Pig in Decatur and Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Sugo in Johns Creek. The group also plans to open veggie-driven concept Recess next to Bar Mercado this fall.

Bar Mercado will be open 5-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Sunday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
