Del Taco will be bringing at least five new locations to the east Atlanta area beginning in 2018. The California-based company is teaming up with former NFL player Donnell Thompson to expand the company's presence in Atlanta.

Along with his wife, Deborah,  Thompson is already a franchisee of other national restaurant brands, including McDonald's and Zaxby's.

“One of the key points for us was that Del Taco, unlike other quick-service restaurants, actually prepares food fresh in its working kitchens. No other QSR (quick-service restaurant) in Atlanta offers this high level of freshness and quality with the value and speed of a drive-thru concept," Thompson said in a press release. "It’s our goal to make Del Taco a household name in the region.”

The expansion of Del Taco in Atlanta is a part of the company's expansion in the Southeast, which it announced in early March.
