SweetWater Brewing will be closing its taproom on Oct. 1 to make way for a renovation that will feature a new bar and large roll-up doors to create an indoor/outdoor space with communal seating.

Rene Ferandel is the architect for the project, with Catamount in charge of the construction, which includes the addition of a kitchen that will allow the brewery to offer catering services for private events, plus a bar menu for taproom guests during regular hours.

The taproom, located at 195 Ottley Drive NE, is expected to reopen in January, and taproom hours will remain the same, with brewery tours, live music, games and events in the mix. The casual bar menu, designed to pair with SweetWater beers, can will be ordered at the counter and consumed at the bar or the communal tables.

While the taproom is closed during construction, tours and tastings will continue Thursdays-Sundays, with bars set up under tents on the patio. The Woodlands barrel-aging facility will continue to offer tours and tastings on Saturdays, in addition to private events in the Woodlands and Reel Room.

To celebrate the final days before construction, SweetWater is hosting a weekend of live music with no admission fee and beers available for purchase by the pint or flight.

Friday, Set. 28: Taproom opens at 4:20 p.m. Noonday Son will jam on the patio with a light show starting at 7:30 p.m. HeadCount.org will be on site with voter registrations and raffles.

Saturday, Set. 29: Live music from 3-7 p.m. with Last Chance Riders, Cure My Enemy and Nobody’s Darlings.
