Starting tomorrow, you’ll be able to get Ammazza’s pizza in Decatur

Edgewood location to reopen this winter

A new location of owner Hugh Connerty’s restaurant is set to open tomorrow at 314 E. Howard Ave. across from Kimball House in Decatur, with a menu featuring antipasto, pasta and pizza. A beverage program offering craft cocktails, beer and small production wines in forthcoming, and lunch will follow in early 2019. Ammazza’s Edgewood location is slated to reopen this winter.

Helming the kitchen will be executive chef Sean Dwyer, who will prepare seasonal pizza featuring cured meats from local charcuterie The Spotted Trotter along with housemade mozzarella, dough and sauces. Ammazza will also continue to offer its vegan pizza topped with housemade cashew cheese.

The 2,500-square-foot space’s decor will feature large windows, copper light fixtures and a bar, antique brick and red steel-beamed columns and a blue stained concrete floor. Two Acunto pizza ovens imported from Italy will also be visible in the space, and an outdoor patio behind the restaurant will offer umbrella seating and rows of tables.

The Decatur location will also have viewing windows into the dough and pasta room, allowing customers to watch the pasta and dough making.

Joining Dwyer at the Decatur location will be general manager Daniel Bridges and operations director Nick Reeves.

Ammazza’s hours will be 5-11 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 5-midnight Friday-Saturday, with lunch to come.
