A long-awaited bar and event space at Ponce City Market are open for business.

Slater Hospitality, owners and operators of Skyline Park, Nine Mile Station and Rooftop Terrace at Ponce City Market this week opened RFD Social, encompassing all floors of the mixed-use development's Tower. Construction began on the Tower last fall.

RFD Social features The Parlor, a 10th-floor bar with design reminiscent of a 1920s speakeasy including bistro-style tables and wall fixtures such as old-fashioned radios. The bar serves a variety of specialty cocktails and a selection of wines and local beers.

On the 11th floor is the Roebuck Room, a 3,970 square foot space for private events equipped with small and large conference rooms and a larger event space.

RFD Social also includes a “surprise space” on the 12th floor, according to a press release.

The name "RFD Social" was inspired by Dinner Bell R.F.D. (Radio Farmer’s Democracy), a local radio show originally broadcasted from the tower’s 11th floor in the 1920s. Sears & Roebuck would air the show three days a week at noon, when rural farmers and housewives took a break from their day to gather around the table. At the start of each program, host and harmonist Dewey Burnett would ring a dinner bell, followed by a show full of farming and homemaking advice and music by local musicians of the time, from John Carson to the Wompus Cats.

Slater Hospitality is hosting "The Revival of RFD Social," on July 12. The event will feature live music, theatrical performances showcasing the building's history and food and drinks from Nine Mile Station

RFD Social is open during Skyline Park’s regular hours. It's $10 to enter the roof and tower, which includes a wristband good for the day.

RFD Social will be open noon-9 p.m. Sunday; 3 p.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Wednesday; 3-11 p.m. Thursday-Friday; and 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday.
