Rose + Rye, the fine dining restaurant that opened last October at 87 15th Street in the "Castle" Mansion in Midtown, is seeing numerous changes.

Numerous members of its staff team, including executive chef Lindsay Owens and chef de cuisine Anu Adebara, are no longer working at the restaurant.

According to Rose + Rye co-owner Mike Latham, pastry chef De Londra Ellis is serving as interim executive chef until a decision is made regarding Owens’ replacement. Latham anticipates an announcement about a new hire within the next few weeks.

Besides personnel changes at the front and back of the house, Latham stated that more projects are in the works at the Castle, which he purchased some eight years ago with the hopes of “bringing an historic Atlanta building and beautiful space back to use by the public.”

A few weeks ago saw the debut of Expo, a late-night bar on the ground floor that operates Thursdays through Saturdays. By mid-summer, Latham plans to open the same space in the daytime as an espresso and juice bar.

He also plans to utilize the outdoor patio space for weekend brunches at Rose + Rye, beginning around Mother’s Day.

Finally, Latham stated that he is planning a bed and breakfast at the three-story property. The B&B will have five rooms, with food service coming through the Rose + Rye. He anticipates opening that in September.

“I am looking for it to be a super experimental space,” Latham said about the various concepts he plans for the Castle. “Rose + Rye is just one piece of that.”

The Castle was built by Ferdinand McMillan in the early 1900s. The historic landmark was acquired in the late 1940s by Hazel Roy Butler, who opened the home to local artists who often paid their rent with works of art.
