Communion is reopening for football season.

Communion, the backyard bar behind Revival in Decatur, is back.

The bar -- which opened in 2016 as a German-themed bar and eatery, then turned into the Mexican-themed Communion Cantina in early 2017 and then morphed into a special event space a few months later --  will open for weekend service starting Sept. 8.

Chef and owner Kevin Gillespie said he’s aiming for this go ‘round of Communion to serve as a spot for visitors to have a comfortable place to watch sporting events.

“We want Communion to be that go-to gathering spot for catching up over a beer and a casual meal or enjoying a good football game,” Gillespie said in a prepared statement. “I know that’s where I plan to be cheering on the Dawgs and the Falcons.”

Communion, which will open starting at noon every Saturday and Sunday through the weekend after Thanksgiving,  will offer food and drink for purchase from the backyard food truck including a variety of Springer Mountain Farms chicken wings, chicken tenders, fried chicken salad and French fries, with drinks including craft beers, a small list of wines and a weekly rotating cocktail.

The space features two televisions and cornhole. Guests can enter Communion through Revival’s parking lot; reservations are not needed.

In addition to Revival and Communion, Gillespie also owns Gunshow in Glenwood Park and Gamechanger in Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
