Cobb County residents who crave food with an international flair without the drive to Buford Highway won’t have far to drive anymore.

Wyer Street Foods, which specializes in comfort foods from around the world, opened earlier this month in Smyrna.

The menu focuses on “food that people can mostly eat on the go, that’s accessible and full of flavor,” said owner Farhan Rabbi.

Named for the street his grandparents lived on in their native Bangladesh, Rabbi said Wyer features dishes he grew up with as well as dishes from other countries including India, Thailand and Korea that aren’t readily available in Smyrna.

Though the menu is still being finalized, expect to see dishes such as Morog Polao, basmati rice and chicken cooked with spices and herbs and served with quick pickles; Wyer Street Ramen made with beef broth, brisket, green onions, pickled shiitake mushroom and a soft boiled egg; and Pani Puri, a thin shell stuffed with chickpeas and potato with tamarind water.

Also look for a variety of drinks and desserts including Rasgulla, soft and spongy cheese balls in a sweet spiced syrup.

A full menu will be available on the weekends, with a more limited selection of staples being offered during the week.

Rabbi, who took cooking classes in Thailand before opening Wyer Street Foods, said he’s long thought about opening a restaurant inspired by dinners hosted by friends in his previous career as a web designer.

“We’d have these amazing dinners, and I realized how much I missed a good meal and good food,” he said. “I love food, and I love being in front of people and talking to people.”

He said the restaurant will likely start selling beer and wine in the new year, and he eventually hopes to offer a chef’s table for larger groups.

Rabbi suggests checking the restaurant’s Facebook page for regular hours and menus.
