Fox Bros. BBQ team to donate proceeds to family of manager lost to cancer

The Fox Bros. BBQ team, mourning the loss of its longtime general manager, will honor her memory during tomorrow's lunch and dinner service.

Cynthia Montoya, who started with the restaurant almost nine years ago as a server and worked her way up to general manager, died of pancreatic cancer after being diagnosed in 2015.

"Cynthia Montoya was a great employee, and more importantly, a great friend," co-owner Justin Fox said in a statement. "She was the heart and soul of Fox Bros Bar-B-Que, always quick with a bad joke to make you smile when you needed it most. She will be greatly missed by everyone she knew, not only here at the restaurant but in the Atlanta community as well."

The restaurant will donate 40 percent of its all-day sales Wednesday at both the DeKalb Avenue at 1238 DeKalb Ave. NE and Que-osk location at 120 Ottley Drive . The proceeds will go to help offset expenses for Montoya's family or The Giving Kitchen, the non-profit arm of Staplehouse that helps Atlanta restaurant workers facing unexpected financial hardship.

The DeKalb location will also offer the Mexicutioner sandwich in Montoya's honor, made with chopped brisket, sliced jalapeño, cheddar sausage, avocado salsa, pickled red onion, cotija cheese on a brioche bun.

Fox Bros. was also dealt a blow in 2013 when executive chef Charlotte Nelson died of breast cancer.
