A long-awaited brewpub from the team behind Decatur's popular Brick Store Pub opened its doors in Duluth this week.

Good Word Brewing and Public House opened in the Parsons Alley development at 3085 Main St.

Partner Todd DiMatteo and the rest of the Brick Store team announced their intention to open Good Word more than a year ago. The brewpub will focus on "approachable beers and mixed fermentations such as sours and IPAs," Di Matteo told the Atlanta Business Chronicle last year.

The spot's current beers include selections such as the Donna Maria, a dry saison named after Di Matteo and partner Ryan Skinner's grandmothers, Never Sleep, an IPA, and Bridges, a sour with apricot and mango flavors. The beverage offerings also include beers from several other local breweries as well as cocktails and wines.

On the food side, look for shared plates including citrus guacamole, Izzy's Puerto Rican fried chicken and pork candy, made with pork belly, gujillo, queso fresco, baby kale, sea salt and peptia lime butter, as well as desserts such as banana pudding and Key lime pie.

"The Block" at Parson's Alley, a 30,000 square-foot restaurant (and retail) district surrounding Duluth's Village Green, has already seen the opening of several other eateries, including  Dreamland BBQ, Simply Done Donuts and Maple Street Biscuit Company. Several more are still set to open, including Korean steakhouse Noona from the team behind Taiyo Ramen and Double Dragon,

O4W Pizza also  moved to the area last year .

Across Buford Highway from Parsons Alley, a $64 million mixed-use project is also under construction at the site of the former Proctor Square shopping center. That is slated to include  hundreds of apartments, a pair of restaurant spaces and nearly a dozen other storefronts .
