Scofflaw Brewing celebrates its one year anniversary at noon on Saturday. And what a year it’s been.
The brewery that literally started in a basement, and birthed one of Atlanta’s biggest buzz beers, Basement IPA, grew by leaps and bounds in just 12 months.
Along the way, there were triumphs, trials and weird moments that appeared unprecedented for a brewery that seemed to suddenly surface out of nowhere.
I latched on to the story early , and probably wrote more about Scofflaw than many readers or rival breweries might consider cool. But I’m a sucker for a good tale, and I was taken by how good the beers were from day one.
And now, as Scofflaw is set to welcome the masses back to its Westside world for a big party, this week’s Beer Pick is Scofflaw Sneaky Wheat.
Oh, and here’s the list of what will be pouring on Saturday at Scofflaw:
Basement, Hooligan, Westside, POG Basement, Sucker Punch, Grapefruit Westside, Lousy, Drop Kick.
Double Jeopardy, Upper Westside, Double Basement, POG Double Basement, Goats Milk IPA,
California Love, Black Eye Sucker Punch, Pineapple Basement, Toucan Slam, Arnold Palmer's Basement, Goats Milk #5
Absentium, Absentium Coffee, Absentium Honey, Absentium Vanilla, Maniac.
Sneaky Wheat, Sneaky Wheat Raspberry, Sneaky Wheat Pineapple & Coconut
Scofflaw Brewing Co., Atlanta
Available on draft at the brewery and at bars and restaurants around metro Atlanta.
Nowhere near the biggest buzz beer in the Scofflaw portfolio (unless you consider its sneaky-high alcohol content), Sneaky Wheat shows up on a surprising number of draft lists at bars and restaurants around metro Atlanta — which makes me guess that beverage directors like it’s easy-drinking ways.
At 8% alcohol, its dubbed an Imperial American Wheat Ale. It pours a cloudy yellow-gold with a frothy white head. Wheat, citrus and a hint of spice in the aroma carry over to the mild, ever so slightly tart flavor. As the name implies, it’s a beer that will sneak up on you.
Match the light grain and citrus character of Sneaky Wheat with lighter dishes, including salads, sushi, vegetable tapas, or creamy cheeses such as buffalo mozzarella or burrata.
