Continuing with 2018 holiday beers, New Belgium’s Brut IPA is part of the brewery’s new rotator series, "Up Next.”
The seasonal launch coincides with Christmas, and with its dry, bubbly essence it makes a great way for beer drinkers to ring in the New Year — which is why it’s this week’s Beer Pick.

Described as a “trend-pushing, refreshing, champagne-like brew,” New Belgium’s take on the sporadically building style was sparked by partner and sparkling wine enthusiast Dick Cantwell’s experiments with Brut IPAs at sister brewery Magnolia Brewing in San Francisco.
Brewed with pale and pilsner malts and a blend of Huell Melon, Nelson Savin, Azzaca, Citra and Amarillo hops, it’s bright, dry and effervescent with tropical fruit notes and a subtle bitterness in the finish. At 6.7 percent, it’s below the alcohol content of most sparking wines. And New Belgium recommends mixing it with orange juice to make a “beer-mosa,” which may delight fans of hazy-juicy IPAs.
Pair with
Sparkling, dry and refreshing, New Belgium’s Brut IPA is an easy choice to sip with party hors d’oeuvres, including cheese, charcuterie, oysters and shrimp cocktail. For brunch, try it with scrambled eggs, veggie omelets, and smoked salmon with bagels and cream cheese. Or serve it as a “beer-mosa”spiked with OJ.
