LAS VEGAS -- I have arrived in Las Vegas with a couple of hours before the Summer League action starts.

I figured I would share a couple of leftover items from my interview Thursday with newly re-signed Hawks forward Paul Millsap.

* On the loss of DeMarre Carroll: “DeMarre is like a brother to me. We are pretty close. We came in together. I’m sad to see him go. I’m definitely excited for him and happy for him. I support him whatever decision he makes. It’s something that we’ve got to get back from. He was a big part of what we accomplished and where we’re going. Hopefully other guys can step up and fill that role.”

* I asked Millsap if he spoke to any other players during the free-agent process and got an interesting answer. Wesley Matthews. Matthews ended up leaving the Trail Blazers for the Mavericks. "We are like a faternity," Millsap said.

* On his thoughts about the Hawks roster following offseason moves: “We’ve still got a lot of guys coming back. DeMarre is not going to be with us. He’s a big part of us. But we still have a lot of our core guys coming back. We’ve got some good additions. We’ve got some guys coming back from injuries. We feel like we can definitely compete. We want to build off of last year.”

* Millsap said he would be in Las Vegas for a couple of days to support the Hawks team, which includes in brother Abraham.

I will check back later from summer league.
