Horford surprises students at varsity basketball practices

Al Horford tried his hand at coaching. Well, assistant coaching anyway.

The Hawks center surprised the Langston Hughes High School boys and girls varsity basketball teams at their practices Wednesday afternoon.

“I will be able to spend some time with the kids and give them a few pointers,” Horford said. “I always enjoy doing things with kids and any school-related things I’m usually for them. I’m excited to do it.”

Horford joined in warm-ups, ran drills, gave a few pointers and coached a scrimmage.

“I’ll see what I can help them with,” Horford said. “Give them little tips here and there.”

The surprise visit was a reward for the school, which has created a healthier environment for its students through the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Healthy Schools Program.
