The Hawks waived guards John Jenkins and Jordan Matthews on Friday night following the team’s exhibition loss at the Pistons. The Hawks had signed both players as training camp invitees.

The Hawks’ roster now stands at 17 players (not including “two-way” contract player Josh Magette). The roster limit for the regular season is 15. Teams also are allowed as many as two roster slots for two-way players, who spend the majority of the season in the G-League.

The Hawks play two more exhibition games before opening the regular season on Oct. 18.

Jenkins played a total of 15 minutes in two exhibition games with the Hawks and scored eight points. The Hawks selected Jenkins in the first round of the 2012 draft. He played 98 games over three seasons for the Hawks before playing for Dallas in 2015-16 and spending parts of the past two seasons with the Suns.

Matthews appeared in just one exhibition game for the Hawks and played five minutes.
