5 things we learned from Falcons' practice today

FLOWERY BRANCH -- Here are five things we learned at Falcons practice on Thursday:

1. Position change: The Falcons moved tight end D.J. Tialavea from tight end to tackle. He was wearing number 74.

2. Injury report. Wide receivers Julio Jones, Andre Roberts and Taylor Gabriel all played during the scrimmage portion of practice. Roberts missed practice on Wednesday with an undisclosed injury and Gabriel had been limited with a lower leg injury. Jones played five plays on Wednesday. Cornerback Akeem King didn't practice today.

3. Campbell doing well. Falcons coach Dan Quinn said the team is hoping that second-year linebacker De’Vondre Campbell can make a big leap in his second year. He was taking part in the pass rushing drills as he makes the transition to from weakside linebacker to strongside linebacker.

4. Goodwin shining. Quinn said that reserve cornerback C.J. Goodwin, who’s been working with the second-team defense is playing well. The former college basketball player and converted wide receiver is in his second season at the position. He made the team last season as a special teams player.

5. Quinn and McKinley. It was Quinn’s day to spend some time with first-round Takkarist McKinley. The former defensive line coach carves out some time to help out defensive line coach Bryant Young with McKinley at least once a week.
