5 things to know about the Falcons this week

FLOWERY BRANCH – Finally, it’s draft week!

The Falcons will be on the clock with the 17th pick when the draft starts on Thursday in Chicago.

Here are five things to know about the Falcons this week:

1. Trade winds are blowing.  Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff has made a trade in each of his previous eight drafts. The Falcons are unlikely to trade back in the draft just to pick up an additional third or fourth round pick.  Dimitroff has made it clear that the Falcons are not opposed to trading back, but likely would be asking for a second-round pick.

2. Picking order.   The Falcons hold the 17th pick, 50th (second round), 81st (third round), 115th (fourth) and 238th (seventh round). The Falcons had their fifth-round pick revoked by the league for penalties for pumping fake crowd noise into the Georgia Dome during the 2013 and 2014 seasons. They traded their sixth-round pick to Tennessee in the Andy Levitre trade.

3. Visiting the Falcons. Georgia defensive end/linebacker Leonard Floyd worked out for the Falcons in Athens on Saturday. He was down to 235 pounds and dazzled the team with his speed. The Falcons have saved some of their 30 visits for some “just in case” scenarios where they may want to bring someone in for a late visit. Here’s the list of players that have been linked via various media report to the Falcons.
