MOBILE, Ala. -- Practices are set to start for the 69th annual Senior Bowl on Tuesday. The college all-start game is set for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
Executive director Phil Savage discussed some of the top players from Georgia, who will be featured in the game, with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Monday.
Here's what Savage, a former NFL general manager, had to say:
Savage on UCF tight end Jordan Akins (Union Grove): "Jordan is very athletic. Of course, he's a former baseball player. He's a little bit older. He missed a couple of years of football. He's very skilled. Very athletic. He's a big body who can threaten the seam. He can get in and out of his breaks. He's got good speed. One team specifically called and asked if we were going to be able to get him in. Once we confirmed that he graduated, we were able to get him here."
Savage on Auburn safety Tray Matthews (Newnan): "Tray is a combination safety, a strong safety and free safety. I think one of the questions for him is to see him cover a tight end man-to-man. For the most part I think he's either a middle of the field safety, who can play in a zone. He has to show the skill of being able to cover some one-on-one."
Savage on Georgia State cornerback Chandon Sullivan: "I was there during training camp. I'd actually went there to look at someone else. They said, 'No. No. Our best prospect is over there on the other side of the field.' So, I went over and watched (Sullivan) go through the drills. I was like, 'wow, this kid can really move.' They swear that he's going to test extremely well. So, I think this can be a real important week for him."
Also, West Georgia offensive tackle Desmond Harrison suffered a knee injury in their final game and will not play in the game. He will participate in the weigh-in Tuesday.
