7 quick takes from Falcons' OTAs

FLOWERY BRANCH – The Falcons just completed their OTA practice on Tuesday.

We’ll speak to coach Dan Quinn and several players later. Check back for updates.

But for now, here are seven quick takes from the first session, which was attended by several college coaches.

1. Freeney’s visit. Defensive end Dwight Freeney, who has 119.5 career sacks, is set to visit the Falcons on Wednesday.  Former Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Nolan believes the team should sign Freeney.

2. Eye in the sky. The Falcons are testing out a new filming system for practices. It has the camera in the air, while it's being controlled by a seated videographer. It takes the videographer out of the sky on a crane. The system is called the 8K Solutions.

3. Injury report.  Returner Devin Hester (ankle/foot), right guard Chris Chester (shoulder) and center James Stone (knee) did not participate in the open practice.

Defensive tackle Grady Jarrett (tendonitis knee), defensive end Adrian Clayborn (strained pectoral) and wide receiver Devin Fuller (hamstring) were also limited.

4. Visiting coaches. There were several college coaches on hand watching practice.

5. Campbell shining. Rookie DeVontre Campbell lined up with the first-team defense at weakside linebacker next to middle linebacker Paul Worrilow and strongside linebacker Philip Wheeler. Campbell was active and looked just fine covering a running back down the field on a wheel route.  Rookie Deion Jones (middle), Sean Weatherspoon (weakside) and Tyler Starr (strongside) lined up with the second team.

6. Beasley sniffs out pass. Outside linebacker Vic Beasley took his turns at strongside linebacker. On one play, he dropped into the flat and flowed to running back Gus Johnson who made a catch.

7. Collins has pick. During 11-on-11, Right cornerback Jalen Collins made a nice interception on a pass from Matt Schaub that was intended for wide receiver Eric Weems.
